Visiting

The houses of Beatrix Potter (Hill Top less than a mile away), Ruskin (Brantwood), Wordsworth (Dove Cottage) are nearby and don't forget that you are in the heart of Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazon Country! The Beatrix Potter Gallery in Hawkshead village complements any visit to her National Trust home at Near Sawrey, less than one mile away, with a fascinating exhibition of original water colour illustrations. Blackwell, a house built in the Art and Crafts movement style (and tearoom) is a 3-minute journey from the Bowness side of the lake. Levens Hall with it's fine garden is also nearby.

You will be spoiled for choice for places to visit.

Being in the heart of the Southern Lakes, whichever direction you take, there are an abundance of fascinating places to visit, which are either within walking distance, cycling distance or less than 30 minutes by car.
